Oh hey you, I’m reviewing the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask today. If you haven’t heard of Laneige it’s a Korean skincare and cosmetics brand under their parent company Amore Pacific (they also own Sulwhasoo and Etude House, in case you’re a bit familiar with Korean Brands).
I first got this mask from a friend who was doing a shoot for a Korean brand nearly 5 years ago. Ever since then, I haven’t used any other sleeping masks because spoiler alert.. ‘til this day I love it that much, but more on that below. Laneige as a brand focuses on the technology of water, natural and botanical extracts hence moisturising products are one of their areas of expertise. Link Ebay: https://goo.gl/rg7whk

SIZE
The size falls right in between most mask jar sizes, i.e. 50 – 100 ml. I use this mask quite often, say about 3 times a week and it’ll last me for about 2 months, if I use it sparingly then I can stretch it out to 3 months.
PRICE
I would neither consider Laneige a drugstore nor high-end brand. It’s basically the sweet spot where it isn’t ridiculously overpriced but isn’t so cheap that you start to question where the ingredients come from. In relation to the size, it’s a good deal. I mean if you compare it to the brand fresh, they sell a few products at that price point but you only get 30 ml. In terms of availability, it may be a bit harder to get in the UK though, so better check online or if you're travelling this summer you can always have a look at the duty free section.
PACKAGING

They renewed the packaging last year to make it look a lot sleeker and feel sturdy but it’s still lightweight. I do love the design of it, and the gradient of blue it has. It’s made from a thicker, harder plastic almost giving the illusion that it’s made out of glass but of course it is isn’t. The letters are imprinted on the bottle and it doesn’t fade even if you scratch it.
Besides this, the packaging is a con for me though. It is bulkier than it has to be because it’s in a jar. It does make it look prettier but makes it harder to travel with. Also, I hate it when my skincare comes in a jar because every time you open your jar, you can say hello to the bacteria. Also, the longer your cream, mask or whatever it may be, is exposed to air, the faster it will expire and formula will change.
I do understand when a formula is thick that companies use a jar as it’ll be harder to get out for the consumer otherwise, but this formula is so lightweight that it’s just unnecessary.
It does come with a spatula though. The newer spatula is actually clear and looks like a little spoon which is definitely an upgrade from the white one you see in the picture. That’s the older version. I’ve been looking everywhere for the new spatula but these things are like hair ties to me, you just lose them everywhere in the house.
APPLICATION AND EASE OF USE

You do actually get a nice box with this mask and some instructions. I believe it says something along the lines of - smell the formula for 5 seconds, breath in, breath out and apply it in this way. They try to make the whole experience like a little spa treatment. Now, honestly, I did do that for the first few times and then I just became lazy so I’ll just take about a dime size amount and apply a layer over my face and neck. If my skin is very dry or normally during the winter months, I’ll apply a rather thick layer or apply a thick moisturiser first and then right before bed, I’ll apply a thinner layer of the mask.
It does need about 20 minutes to sink in, so let it sink in before you go to sleep. If you go to bed directly, your hair will stick all over your face and your face will stick onto your pillow. Be warned. But once it sinks it, you won’t notice it anymore and won’t have any troubles sleeping but if you touch it, it may still feel a tad bit sticky.
The reason why I love this mask is because once you wake up, it’s like your skin had a moisture boost. It truly nourishes my dry skin and even if you have oily skin, this mask will be good for you - it’ll still leave you with the moisture your skin needs but won’t make you oily. In a more simpler way, it’s basically like your skin drank 2 litres of water and it’s looking refreshed and nourished.
I do apply this mask as a spot treatment once in a while on my dry patches or on scar tissues from blemishes or anything like that. I’ll generally use an actual spot treatment with alcohol if my blemish is new so that the alcohol dries it out and then the next day use this mask in that area to give it back the hydration it needs.
